KIERAN TIERNEY has been named Arsenal's player of the month for June, as voted for by the fans.
The former Celtic full-back received 40 per cent of the votes cast, with Bukayo Saka in second place and Granit Xhaka in third.
The Scotland international has been in fine form throughout June, playing all four of Arsenal's games and impressing with his energy and commitment at left back or left wing back.
Tierney was named man of the match in Arsenal's Emirates FA Cup quarter-final victory against Sheffield United, and won a legion of the Gunners support for turning up to the game carrying a Tesco bag instead of a wash bag.
We told this morning how Arsenal gaffer Mikel Arteta praised Tierney and told how he would not be leaving the club despite transfer rumours linking him with a move to Leicester City.
He said: “He’s not going anywhere.
“I really like him.
“I’m very impressed him. Everybody loves him at the club and he earns that every single day with the way he treats people, the way he works and the energy he brings to the place.
“And then with his performances, I am delighted. He has adapted really well, he is a player that gives you everything in every session and every game. And the quality he has added as well.
“He’s still so young, he has things to improve obviously but he’s been a great addition to the team.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
