NIKO KATIC has provided Rangers fans with an injury update after he went under the knife in hospital.
The Croatian defender will be out for the forseeable future after he sustained cruciate knee damage during pre-season training.
It is likely that he will be out for up to six months, but the Ibrox side were quick to get him into surgery as quick as possible to ensure he gets back on the pitch as soon as possible.
Katic posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed following surgery with the caption: "Everything went really well with op. Thank you all for love and support."
We told how Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard may now have to explore the transfer market for a replacement defender, with just Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and George Edmundson at his disposal.
Youngster Lewis Mayo could also be drafted in, but with so much weighing on next season it is likely Rangers will bring in defensive cover.
Speaking previously about adding to his squad, Gerrard said: "We've got numerous targets that we want to bring in to strengthen us and help us over the course of next season. Without giving too much information away it's exciting times to be at Rangers.
"I anticipate more signings but I think we have to be patient. It's going to be a different window.
"I don't anticipate us making lots of signings in terms of trying to make the squad bigger. It's more, can we identify players that are going to make the 11 stronger?"
Rangers have already added to their defensive reinforcements with the addition of full-back Calvin Bassey from Leicester City.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
