RANGERS have completed the double signing of Sam Kerr and Kirsty Howat.

The pair make the switch to Ibrox from Glasgow City where they were both key figures for Scott Booth’s side.

Howat was top goal scorer in the SWPL1 last year with 24 goals and will join the Light Blues in 2021 after signing a pre contract agreement.

Kerr has already earned full International honours for Scotland, making her full international debut against Ukraine in Spain in 2020.

Head Coach, Malcolm Thomson commented on the signings, saying: “We are delighted to secure the services of Sam who has always been a key target for us. We see her as an exciting and dynamic midfield player with huge potential given her age and she was always one of our main targets since we commenced this new project.

“With all of our new experienced full-time staff combined with the completely full-time high performance environment we have, a first for Scotland, we believe Sam will embrace this and thrive for both Rangers and her country.”

On the addition of Howat, he added:  “This is a significant moment for us as we manage to secure the league’s top scorer which will add terrific firepower to our already excellent front line.

“Kirsty is a top player with a very bright future and we believe the high-performance environment we have now at Rangers, which is unique in Scotland, will allow her to develop even further. With the likes of Zoe Ness, Brogan Hay and Megan Bell already at the club Kirsty will add to the competition for places and ensure we drive standards every day.  It is particularly pleasing that we have been able to continue our transfer business throughout the uncertainty of lockdown.

“We continue to progress our preparations for the return of women’s football at Rangers. Signings like Kirsty build the excitement and anticipation further and we can’t wait to work with her.”
