ANNAN ATHLETIC are desperately seeking guidance from the football authorities after conceding they are in a ‘position of financial difficulty’.
Officials from the League Two part-time outfit met with fans at Galabank yesterday morning to discuss the indefinite suspension of the SPFL due to the spread of the coronavirus.
The club have also offered the use of their stadium as a community hub amid health crisis.
A club statement read: “As a result of a well attended and very informative meeting, Annan Athletic FC are in the process of putting together a plan for going forward as a club.
“With the cancellation of first team football and training for all ages by the SPFL, we are in a position of financial difficulty and looking for guidance from the governing bodies as soon as possible.
“With the coronavirus situation development all the time, the Annan Athletic facility will be perfectly placed to support the community with food aid and the areas of support given the proper funding.
“The situation will be closely monitored and more information will follow in the comings days/weeks.
“Thank you for your continued support.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
