How the Rangers players rated in their 2-2 draw with St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.
ALLAN McGREGOR: Made a smart early save to deny Callum Hendry but couldn’t keep out a shot from the same player minutes later. Barely involved in the second half until Stevie May drew Saints level. 6
JAMES TAVERNIER: Always eager to get forward although his crosses often didn’t pick out a team-mate. Claimed an assist for Florian Kamberi’s equalising goal and then missed a golden chance to score not long after. 6
CONNOR GOLDSON: A few shaky moments as Hendry and Stevie May pressed high up the park and didn’t give the Rangers defence a moment’s peace, in the first half especially. 5
NIKOLA KATIC: Horrendous defending at St Johnstone’s first goal as he lumped a ball high into the sky then failed to respond when it came back down. Didn’t fare much better at the second goal either as he failed to clear a corner. 4
ANDY HALLIDAY: Back in for the injured Borna Barisic at left-back, depriving Rangers of an attacking outlet. Hooked at half-time. 5
RYAN JACK: Another who returned to the team after serving a midweek suspension. Dipping first-half volley almost caught out Zander Clark. Solid, unfussy display. 6
JOE ARIBO: European display saw the former Charlton man catapulted into the starting line-up. Pushed into left-back again for the second half but still managed to get forward to nudge Rangers’ second goal over the line. 7
SCOTT ARFIELD: Tried valiantly to get forward to support the front three whenever he could as Rangers looked to get back into the game. 6
IANIS HAGI: A lot quieter than his match-winning heroics against Braga as he failed to make a major impact. 5
ALFREDO MORELOS: Has barely kicked a ball since returning from suspension, although his team-mates failed to create much for him on this occasion. Driven effort late in the first half was comfortably saved. 5
RYAN KENT: Better than some of his recent performances but still struggled to properly make an impact on the contest. Thumping low drive came close to bringing about a Rangers’ equaliser but needed to create more. 5
Substitutes:
FLORIAN KAMBERI: (for Halliday 46): Made an instant impact with a brilliant volley to draw Rangers level with the first goal of his loan spell from Hibernian. Had another effort well saved. 7
STEVEN DAVIS: (for Morelos 76): Sent on to try see Rangers over the line once they had forged in front only for Saints to equalise soon after. 5
GREG STEWART: (for Hagi 78): Another run-out off the bench for the former Kilmarnock man. 3
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
