LIAM Polworth will never forget watching Inverness savour Scottish Cup glory – and has told of his burning ambition to experience such euphoria with Motherwell.
Back in 2015, Polworth was a substitute for the the Caley Thistle side which made history by lifting their first-ever piece of silverware by overcoming Falkirk 2-1 in a nerve-shredding final at Hampden.
The 10-man Highlanders triumphed thanked to James Vincent’s late goal to ensure the famous trophy would be heading back to the Highlands, leaving local lad Polworth thrilled for his team-mates as they soaked up the adulation back in the Highland Capital.
Polworth said: “I won a cup medal with Inverness a few years ago. I didn’t actually play in the final, I was a sub. I was a young lad and it was a great experience to be there and to win it in the end.
“People tell you different things about the final, but it’s different if you don’t play. But the boys said it was a massive occasion even if you didn’t play in the match. To win it was great.
“Having been involved before would spur anyone to go and, if it comes around again, to get a chance to play in a final. It’s something every player dreams of.
“I didn’t actually go back up to Inverness on the bus, I went straight away on holiday. I was a wee bit stubborn!”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
