CELTIC manager Neil Lennonhas admitted he is hopeful his £9 million striker Odsonne Edouard will be available for the Betfred Cup final against Rangers at Hampden on Sunday.
Edouard, who has a slight strain, missed the Parkhead club’s Ladbrokes Premiership win over Ross County in Dingwall this afternoon.
Lennon revealed the Frenchman, who has scored 14 times for the treble treble winners in the 2019/20 campaign, did some running yesterday.
However, the Northern Irishman, who played winger Lewis Morgan up front once again at the Global Energy Stadium, doesn’t know if the player will be available for the cup final.
“We’re taking it day by day,” said Lennon. “I can’t pinpoint when he’ll be back. So we have to soldier on without him at the minute and we’ll see how he is as the week goes on.
“It’s just day by day. We’ll see how he is tomorrow. He’s been out running today and I think he’s come through that okay. I’m hoping Odsonne will be okay.”
Lennon doesn’t feel that Edouard needs to play in the Premiership match against Hamilton at Parkhead on Wednesday night to make the Rangers match,
“It’s not necessary,” he said. “You don’t want to take a chance with it. He may or may not be fit, we will monitor it day by day.”
Lennon is optimistic that Mohammed Elyounoussi and Jonny Hayes will be ready to face Steven Gerrard’s team this weekend, but feels the match may come too soon for Boli Bolingoli
“Moy should be training Wednesday or Thursday so he should have a good chance,” he said. “Jonny should be fine. Boli we’re not sure on yet. He might be a doubt.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
