NEIL LENNON has revealed that Kieran Tierney’s injury problems aren’t yet over, as the full-back continues to suffer pain from inflammation around his pubic bone.
Tierney underwent an operation on a double hernia at the start of the summer, and while that procedure went well, the discomfort he had been feeling from his long-term Osteitis pubis problem has reared its head once more.
Lennon is hoping though that the extended rest might be good for his player in the long run.
“KT is still having problems with the pubic injury, so we will need to get to the bottom of that,” Lennon said.
“In terms of the double hernia, that’s all sorted now. But he’s still saying he’s a bit sore to start running.
“I don’t think it gets any worse, but there’s just a constant dull pain there. Eventually. you can mature out of it. I have seen that. But right now, he still feels a lot of discomfort with it.
“The rest won’t do him any harm at all. I think he will benefit from it. We don’t want him to be out for too long but we need to get him right.
“He now has some competition in Boli (Bolingoli-Mbombo) too, so that means he can step in.
“That might take the weight off him a bit.”
Tierney has been at the centre of transfer speculation since the window opened in June, with Arsenal having a £15m bid rejected and Napoli known to have an interest in him too.
But Lennon is hoping he is still a Celtic player, and a fully fit one, when the league season kicks off.
“He should hopefully be fit in another month, and we will look to get him out on the grass maybe next week,” he said.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
