NEIL Lennon last night insisted Celtic's eventual title win will be 'all down to Brendan Rodgers' when eight in a row is eventually clinched.
The interim Parkhead manager, whose team drew 0-0 at home to Livingston yesterday, could wrap up the championship against Hibernian at Easter Road in a fortnight despite dropping points.
And while Rodgers is seen as a traitor in the eyes of many Celtic supporters, his predecessor was happy to acknowledge the work his fellow Northen Irishman had one over the best part of three season.
Lennon said: "It’s a partial claim for me, this eight in a row title. For me, it’s down to Brendan and the work he implemented and the foundations which are in place. I want to do it for him as much as anybody else.
“To finish the season unbeaten would be great. It has been difficult, I won’t say it’s been easy, but we are going well. I think performances can get better. The win over Rangers was obviously psychologically huge for us. We then came off the back of that with a decent performance at St Mirren.
“This is still very much so a Brendan team rather than my team. There are players here from my pervious time but it’s still got Brendan’s stamp on it.”
Celtic were flat in the draw with Livingston in a game which gave little for the home crowd to cheer just six days after their dramatic win over Rangers.
Lennon admitted: "It's frustration because we created great chances, even in the 93rd minute we had a great chance to win it.
"The performance was decent, the first half very good, the second half a little bit huffy and puffy. We put a bit of width in the team and again we created some really good chances. I just think we overplay it, at times we can get the ball forward a little bit quicker.
“It will be good to have a couple of days off to rest and recover and then focus on the semi-final.
“Look, we are in a great position - 14 points clear and, yes, Rangers have a game in hand but they have to win it. If they do it will only be 11 with five games to so I think we are in a very strong position.
“We know what we have to do and we’ve got a big semi-final now outwith the league to look forward to so I think there’s a lot to be happy about."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
