KILMARNOCK PLAYER RATINGS
BACHMANN: Saved well from Odsonne Edouard, James Forrest and Callum McGregor in the first-half. The Austrian goalkeeper had less to do in the second-half, but still denied Oliver Burke and Dedryck Boyata. Had no chance with Scott Brown’s deflected 6
O’DONNELL: Did his Scotland prospects no harm at all with an assured display at right back. Could have played in one of his team mates earlier after a searing break upfield in the second-half. But it was hard to be critical 7
BROADFOOT: The centre half went agonisingly close to opening the scoring in the first-half when he got on the end of a Chris Burke corner in the Celtic penalty box. His header, though, flew just wide of the right post. Received a straight red card for a foul on Brown in the second-half. Could have no complaints 4
BOYD: Had his work cut out dealing with lone Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard and his replacement Oliver Burke. But he did well to keep his side level - until the final minute 6
TAYLOR: Tidy. Dealt well with the threat posed by James Forrest and Jeremy Toljan on his side of the park effectively 6
POWER: Nearly took out Scott Brown with a high boot in the first-half in a carbon copy of his controversial challenge on Ryan Jack of Rangers earlier this month. But he was his usual combative presence in the middle of the pitch. Prevented the visitors from building up any rhythm 7
DICKER Played on after being flattened by Ryan Christie in the first-half and turned in another fine performance. The Rugby Park skipper’s tackling and distribution were both exemplary. Made a crucial intervention when Burke was bearing down on his goal late on 7
JONES The Rangers-bound winger had a subdued afternoon. Shot wide early in the second-half. Steve Clarke would have been looking for more from his wide man 5
BURKE Outstanding. The former Rangers and Scotland man is enjoying a rich vein of form this season and he turned in another first class display here. Was strong in possession and worked tirelessly during the time he was on the park 7
MCALENY: The on-loan striker put in, like every Kilmarnock player, a powerful shift. Had a goal disallowed by referee Bobby Madden in the second-half due to a foul in the build-up. Received a standing ovation from the home fans when he was replaced by Liam Millar late on 6
BROPHY: Took the place of Youssouf Mulumbu, who was unable to play against his parent club, and did well. Had a shot blocked by Dedryck Boyata in the first-half. Made way for Alex Bruce when his side was reduced to 10 men 6
Substitutes
BRUCE Came on after Broadfoot had been sent off. The Brown shot struck his arm on the way into the net 2
MILLAR A late replacement 2
MCKENZIE: Hardly involved 2
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
