McGregor
Had virtually nothing to do in the first-half. Plucked a cross from Boli Bolingoli out of the air six minutes before half-time. Saved easily from substitute Christoph Knasmullner twice in the second-half. Could do little about the winner 6
Tavernier
Excellent. Set up Connor Goldson with a chance with a free-kick in the first-half. The right back was brilliant defensively throughout the game too and made a string of important blocks. Forced a save from the Rapid keeper in the 81st minute 8
McAuley
The vastly-experienced Northern Ireland internationalist made his first European start for Rangers in the Westadion. Looked commanding in the middle of the defebce ad organised the visitors' backline well 7
Goldson
The centre half was denied a goal by the woodwork in the 21st minute after getting on the end of a Tavernier delivery. Put in a decent shift and could do little about the counter attack that led to the Rapid goal 6
Barisic
The Croatian was preferred to both Andy Halliday and Jon Flanagan at left back. Forced a save from Richard Strebinger with a free-kick in the 16th minute. Couldn’t be faulted for effort 6
Jack
One of only four players to survive the weekend. He more than justified his selection with a fine display. Was lucky to escape with a booking for a needless challenge on Manuel Martic in the first-half. 7
McCrorie
A surprise inclusion. The 20-year-old hadn’t started a game in over two months. But he performed well in the holding midfield role. Should get more game time going forward. 7
Arfield
Slotted straight back into the team on the right of midfield after missing the Dundee match. Gave opposition left back number Stephane Auer a difficult night and did well going forward too 7
Coulibaly
Failed to make a major impact on proceedings. Chipped over from the crossbar in the 64th minute before being replaced 4
Middleton
Made a great break in the 10th minute, but undid his good work by crossing too early. Stuck to his task well, however. Was constantly looking for the ball and made a few decent deliveries into the Rapid box 6
Morelos
The Colombian striker returned to the side from suspension. Had soon got himself embroiled in an off-the-ball tussle with opposition centre half Mateo Barac. But he kept his composure in a high-stakes game well. Fought for every ball and caused the home team a lot of problems 7
Replacements
Grezda
Took over from Coulibaly, but failed to make a difference 3
Lafferty
Was unable to get the goal that his side required to progress 3
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
