STEVEN Fletcher last night targeted a win over Israel and a Euro 2020 play-off place after scoring on his first appearance for Scotland in 13 months.
Fletcher buried a penalty against Albania in the Boro Lorici Stadium in added-on time at the end of the first-half.
His strike ensured Alex McLeish's men romped to an emphatic 4-0 triumph and drew level on points with Israel in Group C1.
But the Sheffield Wednesday man now wants to triumph at Hampden on Tuesday evening and ensure the national team top the section.
"The win sets things up for Tuesday against Israel now," he said. "We will take a lot of confidence from that performance and result.
"We now need to have a go against Israel and the fans will be right behind us.
"Sometimes you just need that one result. It can change everything when you get a win like that. We have a lot of confidence going into Tuesday.
"I was happy with my performance. You can always do better but it's my first Scotland game in a while.
"It was tough getting up to the tempo, even going up against ten men. But I enjoyed it and I would love to be involved with the young lads again on Tuesday."
Fletcher added: "You are going to get injuries in football and that's what most of the call-offs were. It happens in football. I know that more than anyone.
"But the gaffer only had to throw young David Bates in for his debut. He was great and it looks good for the future.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
