LADBROKES Premiership clubs were today celebrating a £4 million cash windfall from UEFA.

Celtic’s qualification for the group stages of the Champions League last season means their top flight rivals last season will each receive more than £370,000 in solidarity payments.

This is the second consecutive year that Premiership clubs will receive more than £4 million from European football’s governing body.

The total is more than double the £1.8 million that clubs received in 2016 and 10 times the £400,000 they shared in 2015.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “This is welcome news for the clubs involved in last year’s Ladbrokes Premiership.

“As well as clear financial benefits for top flight clubs, Scottish clubs performing well in European competition increases the league’s profile, which is good for everyone.”
