LEE McCulloch is looking to make the numbers work on and off the park at Kilmarnock after being confirmed as manager.

The 39-year-old former Motherwell, Rangers and Scotland utility player began a second stint as interim boss in February following the departure of Lee Clark, whom he worked under as assistant.

McCulloch guided the team to eighth place in the Ladbrokes Premiership and was widely expected to land the post and he now sets about bolstering his squad and, hopefully, attendances at Rugby Park.

He said: “It feels great. I was the interim manager twice before and I felt the time was right now with the club on its way up and hopefully we can make changes on the pitch and that will reflect off the pitch, meaning in the stands where we can get more of a crowd coming to watch the team.

“There is no stone being left unturned in recruitment. That is very important.

“We have 10 players in contract so we are going to need to bring in probably 10 players on top of that so that is going to be a challenge in itself.

“So I am just trying to draw on all the experience around me, my contacts, to make it a successful transfer window.

“The main aim is to be a success. It is about building on that core of players who have been here and who are in contract, giving them a little bit of help.

“We have the youngest team in Britain and there are going to be more youngsters coming in but hopefully one or two more experienced players to kick these young lads on and hopefully we can be a better team than we were last season.”

McCulloch revealed his pride in three of his young players who featured in Scotland under-20s’ 1-0 win over Brazil in the Toulon tournament on Saturday, with Greg Taylor scoring the winner.

He said: “Brilliant. It is great. We had four in the squad, three played against Brazil; Iain Wilson, Adam Frizzell and Greg Taylor.

“It is the first Scotland team ever to beat a Brazil team and for Greg Taylor to get his first career goal is fantastic.”
