DUNDEE United co-owner Justine Mitchell has resigned from the board of Scottish Women’s Football along with fellow director Karen Birch.

Both last night confirmed their departures but were unwilling to elaborate on their reasons. Mitchell was commercial director, while Birch’s remit was media and communications.

It is understood there were differences of opinion about the board’s direction of travel.

Mitchell, who also resigned as a director of Dundee United last year, remains chair of the Tannadice club’s women’s team, having formed it in 2015.

Birch is an entrepreneur who is also a member of the BBC Audience Council for Scotland.

Their departures leave the SWF board, which is chaired by Vivienne MacLaren, with just five members.

Last night the chair said she had no comment to make.
