DUNDEE Wanderers staved off the threat of relegation with a 5-3 victory over Croatian side HAHK Mladost in the final match at the women’s indoor European Club Champions Trophy at the Dundee International Sports Centre.
The Scottish team had earlier missed out on the chance of promotion by a single goal.
Once again the catalyst for their victory was the influential Vikki Bunce, who slotted home another couple of goals to lift her total to a round dozen for the tournament.
The Scotland international fired a low shot past a defender on the line at a penalty corner for the opener but Mladost put up more resistance than expected.
They overturned the Taysiders’ advantage with goals from Petra Dervaric and Marijana Franic, but Rachel Osborne’s shot into the roof of the net at another set-piece ensured that the score was level at 2-2 at the interval.
The home crowd was silenced when Dervaric put Mladost 3-2 ahead and a shock looked a possibility. However, Bunce entered the fray again to equalise with another set-piece strike.
The result was sealed when Charlotte Watson found the net with a reverse stick shot and fellow Wanderers teenager Emily Dark finished the scoring with a fierce shot past the goalkeeper.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
