YOU can now keep up to date with breaking news and exclusives from The National on WhatsApp – and be the first to hear about the latest on Scottish politics news.
We have launched a channel on the app where those signed up will receive a curated feed of articles and major updates to keep them in the know on the news agenda.
As Scotland’s only pro-independence newspaper, we offer a perspective on the news in our country – and beyond – that is not available elsewhere.

So when there’s a big breaking story, we know our readers want to turn to coverage that they can trust to report reliably and honestly.
The National's editor Laura Webster (above) said: “At The National, we pride ourselves on punching above our weight – and our readers rightly expect that of us, as we remain the lone voice for Scottish independence on newsstands.
“With our WhatsApp channel, we’ll be reporting directly to YOU with breaking news coverage and exclusive stories.
"You'll be the first to hear the latest on Scottish politics news.
“We think our loyal readers will find this a useful way to keep up with the busy news agenda, but we also hope you can encourage friends and family who maybe aren’t yet ardent Yessers to sign up for journalism that – through our constant holding of power to account – we believe will inform and help win them over.
“We’re excited to see you as part of our new channel!”

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
