IT is "difficult" for Scotland to deal with the UK Government's hostile immigration stance but officials will do "everything they can" to welcome New Scots, the minister for migrants and refugees has said.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Holyrood Weekly podcast, SNP MSP Emma Roddick hit out at the Home Secretary's extreme speech on refugees earlier this week, which she branded "cynical".

"We don't have any control over asylum or immigration or Visa policies, it's very difficult, the landscape that we're operating in," she told the podcast.

"But we're just going to continue to do everything that we can, [such as] introducing a Human Rights Bill that will recognise everyone.

"Also just to carry on working with our local authority and third sector partners to support people who have arrived through the UK immigration system to integrate into Scotland."

Later in the episode, our political reporter Abbi Garton-Crosbie is joined by chief political reporter Judith Duffy to break down the key parts of the Home Secretary's speech to a US think tank and the backlash it caused.

And, they discuss the countdown to the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election as the campaign heads into its final week, the Rosebank oil field sign-off and Fergus Ewing's week-long suspension from the SNP Holyrood group.
