I WAS interested to read the story headlined "Alba call for daily disruption at Westminster by pro-Yes MPs to force indyref2".
(The National, Dec 29), regarding the possibility of causing worthwhile disruption of the proceedings in the House of Commons as a way forward in our fight for independence for Scotland.
I would like to point out that this is not a new idea. At a meeting of our local SNP branch in early August, I instigated a discussion on this very subject, in view of the disrespect with which our representatives in that place were regularly treated. After a lengthy debate it was unanimously agreed that this should be conveyed to our party organisation at Westminster.

Sadly, so far nothing has apparently come of it. I have my hopes that with the new group leader, Stephen Flynn, in place at Westminster this will bear fruit and result in some decisive action. A well-planned and co-ordinated campaign, even if someone is ejected every day, will let the world know just what kind of place that is.
A hundred years ago or thereabouts, the Irish were doing this very thing and Ireland has been a successful independent country for quite a while.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
