(The National, Dec 29), regarding the possibility of causing worthwhile disruption of the proceedings in the House of Commons as a way forward in our fight for independence for Scotland.

I would like to point out that this is not a new idea. At a meeting of our local SNP branch in early August, I instigated a discussion on this very subject, in view of the disrespect with which our representatives in that place were regularly treated. Sadly, so far nothing has apparently come of it. I have my hopes that with the new group leader, Stephen Flynn, in place at Westminster this will bear fruit and result in some decisive action. A well-planned and co-ordinated campaign, even if someone is ejected every day, will let the world know just what kind of place that is.

A hundred years ago or thereabouts, the Irish were doing this very thing and Ireland has been a successful independent country for quite a while.
