THE letter from the Office of Budget Responsibility to the SNP confirms that the new government had no intention of obtaining an economic and fiscal forecast from the OBR before they announced their mini-Budget, in fact they had said that it was a “fiscal event” specifically to avoid the legally required scrutiny of their budget by the OBR.

These are the people who were so obsessed with us observing the law that they legislated so that we must observe laws that we “know or ought to have known about” before we protest about their blatant avoidance of the OBR law.

The OBR was created by a previous Tory government to prevent any future government from imposing policies without assessing their potential damage to the economy; little did they think that it would be a future Tory government that would almost wreck the country by easily and legally ignoring the OBR.

Boris Johnson’s government had one law for us and another for them, Liz Truss’s government has many laws for us and apparently none at all for them.
