ON the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, the tower still stands as a monument to the grotesque inequalities that have blighted the UK over the past 40 years.

It also stands out as the event that defines the past decade of Conservative government and the unrestrained capitalism it supports and promotes with its relentless hunger – its greed – for profit whatever the cost.

The cost for the residents of Grenfell was calamitous and fatal, 72 times over. It is a cost the survivors and family members continue to pay.

This is the inevitable consequence of unregulated capitalism and the real legacy of Conservative government.
