I NOTED Brian Lawson’s apparent disapproval of a Holyrood committee discussing the availability and provision of council allotments (‘Is allotments investigation really a good use of Scottish Parliament time?’, Letters May 12) To support his own dismissive view on the subject, Brian quoted a late SNP councillor friend who, when this type of administrative, mundane (to some) matter cropped up would ask, “Wit’s this got to do with independence?”

Brian then proceeded to produce a batch of figures, percentages and statistics relating to educational matters to which, presumably, Brian’s late friend would have responded with, “Wit’s this got to do with independence?”
