The National:

BORIS Johnson’s new communications chief, Guto Harri, was caught out as he retweeted a comment on John Major’s withering criticism of his new boss last night.

Harri exemplified his credentials as Johnson’s new communications chief as he wasted little to no time deleting his post. This is the kind of swift action that Johnson has called for as he looks to clean up the public perception of No 10.

The tweet read: “Johnson acolytes out in force dismissing what John Major has said because of who he is without even vaguely trying to pretend that anything he said is untrue. That’s the state of where we are now.”

John Major accused the Prime Minister and his officials of breaking lockdown rules and asking the public to “believe the unbelievable”.

Whether or not Harri intentionally retweeted the comment, or even if he agrees with its content, Boris Johnson will be pleased with Harri’s innate instinct to get rid of the evidence. In the media world, there are some things you just can’t teach.

The National:

This is not the first time Guto Harri has been caught up in criticism of Johnson. Most recently, on BBC Two’s Newsnight he said that the parties in Downing Street were “unforgiveable” and that Johnson need to give a “grovelling apology, a really grovelling apology”.

Now in charge of the Prime Minister’s public relations, it would be interesting to see whether he will continue advocating for Johnson to make such an admission, or whether he is capable of such a thing. The cups of the flies on the wall runneth over.

Johnson has refused to say whether he will resign if issued a fine by the Metropolitan Police as their investigations continue into alleged breaking of his own lockdown rules. With daily revelations continuing to abash No 10 and Cressida Dick now resigned as well, one wonders if there is a final Columbo style “Just one more thing...”.
