THE reality has now dawned on many of my neighbours in Castlemilk that the rogue and opportunist whom they trusted to serve their best interests, advance their wellbeing and improve their conditions in life was in fact a phoney and imposter who pretended to champion working-class and Labour values was in fact serving his own interests with an aim of eventually sitting in the House of Lords. He is now halfway to realising that long-held ambition.
I never voted for him because I recognised early his true intentions. But those I really feel sorry for are not just those in my community who gave him their vote, but also the sincere Labour Party ordinary members (many of whom I knew) who worked tirelessly to get him elected. It’s something that generated anger in me.

My hope is, though I doubt it will be the case, that he has many sleepless nights reflecting on the betrayal he inflicted on the good working-class people who now are suffering from the Tory policies he now supports.
The man I speak of is Tom Harris, ex-Glasgow South MP, who will now assist the anti-Scottish Alister Jack Tory office to destroy our democracy and our culture.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
