IS Edinburgh really an English city as Scottish comedian Limmy told one of his followers on Twitch this week?

In this week’s video column, The National’s Lesley Riddoch examines Limmy's pronouncement that "Edinburgh isnae Scotland" which he made as a cheeky dig at the capital city during a Twitch stream.

The Glaswegian comedian later issued a "grovelling apology" to his fans in Edinburgh, saying: “Journalists, I can confirm today that I am issuing a grovelling apology after the Glasgow funnyman received backlash for controversial comments.”

Lesley looks at the historic differences between the east and west coasts of Scotland's central belt where a large number of Scots live but reminds us that the "average Scot" is not from Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Despite the two biggest Scottish city's jostling to take on primacy for Scotland's "essence", the M8 corridor does not represent the whole of Scotland.

She also looks at how Edinburgh contains "the very contrast that's at the heart of Scotland".
