THE only surprise in the Dominic Cummings statement on what Johnson the inadequate thinks about devolution (Cummings says Johnson ‘wants to reverse devolution’, July 6) is that people have been surprised by it!

We are dealing with a Tory here, and one that is so deeply entwined in that group of people who think themselves better than the rest either by an accident of birth, or because their forefathers went on the rampage and stole their way to position (quite often both were required).

Johnson will genuinely feel entitled to cancel all frameworks of democracy should that be required to enable his “type” of person to rake in the money. He has already attempted to illegally shut down Westminster because his supporters were panicking that extraction from the EU may not happen, resulting in all their offshore accounts getting scrutinised.

So no, no great surprise but we still have a minority in Scotland who believe in him, we still have a few who think servitude is better than democracy. We still have our blinkered cannon fodder willing to die for a head of state that is unelected and outdated and a political system designed not to shift any great power into the hands of the electorate.

The latter is why Johnson fears devolution, even in the greatly watered-down form we have. It is why we will never have a federal UK, it is why those that are the puppet masters of the PM are terrified at the road now being taken by three out of four countries that make up the UK.

We are witnessing the end game of empire, the imperial machine so archaic and devoid of any real statesperson that it has been left with Johnson and his backers as its saviours.

All we need to do now is hold our nerve, for the great imperial beast that sits south of the Rio Tweed is very close to imploding.

Our future is bright, Scottish independence is right.
