SIR Tom Devine says the omission of any mention of the indyref in Home Office UK citizenship tests is “not untypical of the recent attitude to Scotland of the UK Government during the Johnson administration.”

In fact such attitudes long predate Johnson’s administration. And since for many years the UK Government has held the monopoly on representing Scotland internationally, our culture and politics have been ignored abroad.

In 2014 my late partner’s nephew Tim was studying Politics and English at Hamburg University. In the whole course during that significant year there was no mention of Scotland, nor of the referendum. Tim got permission from the professor to run a single seminar for his fellow undergraduates about the referendum. I supplied him with materials from both sides of the campaign.

Nowadays, post-indyref and post-Brexit, it’s likely the world beyond the UK is much more aware of Scotland and of what we have to offer.
