DURING his day-long appearance taking centre stage in front of the two Westminster committees, Dominic Cummings revealed that he believed that he wasn’t the brightest of people, lacked expertise in any particular field, and had his advice ignored by the Prime Minister. He held himself responsible and apologised for many of the failings of the government during the early days of the pandemic.

It appears he does not understand the basic concept that advisors advise and governments govern, and consequently he had over-inflated expectations of his influence and position as one of the many sources of prime ministerial advice. When these expectations failed to materialise he became increasingly frustrated and finally struck back, using his insider knowledge in an attempt to bring down the two people that he believes have failed the country because they sidelined him and ignored his advice.

At the end of the day it appeared that this was a highly publicised ego trip, as he had revealed little that was not already public knowledge.
