THE deny, deny, deny Tories are running feart of indyref2. But how do we make them face the consequences at the ballot box?
Further to your article “Boris Johnson will take legal action to stop to stop Scottish independence referendum” (March 9), it seems to me that the Tories at both Westminster and Holyrood are ignorant anti-democrats who want to deny the people of Scotland their FUNDAMENTAL right to national self-determination. It won’t work.
Scots have the right to decide for themselves their constitutional and national future, and there is a clear and consistent majority for both indyref2 and independence itself now, in poll after poll.

Obfuscation, denial, legalism and dirty tricks will not prevail once a nation decides to be free. We were systematically lied to and deceived by the Unionist cabal of Tories, Labour and the LibDems back in 2014.
We will not be fooled again no matter how many Union flags they fling at us, or stick-on projects essentially paid for by OUR taxes and OUR energy resources. But how do we best punish the Tories for their continuing democratic intransigence and threats against a democratically mandated indyref2?
I, and an ever-increasing number, believe winning an indy super-majority in May, across constituencies and list, is the only realistic way to put the Tory/Unionist gas at a peep.
The Max the Yes strategy (first raised by this correspondent in your newspaper some years back) offers Yes voters the BEST chance of punishing those dozens of Tory list MSPs who applaud and bray like donkeys at this ongoing denial of democracy. We can replace them with talented and committed pro-indy MSPs in May if we vote – just this once – tactically and strategically.
All the polls show the SNP on course to win between 68 and 71 constituency seats. That’ll put them back in government with an overall majority – good! But it will make it well nigh impossible with the Additional Member System for the SNP to win ANY list seats. Unless Yes supporters switch their second vote to a list-only party, dozens of Tory democracy deniers will simply walk in on the list again as they did in 2016.
With all us voting SNP in EVERY constituency with our first vote, and then, on EVERY regional list, for Action for Independence (AFI) with our second vote, we could smash the Tories electorally in Scotland and show that our fundamental right to self-determination is not to be mucked about by these privileged establishment wide boys.
So while I respect the fact we must all make our own choices, it’s SNP 1, AFI 2 for me in May, and I would urge National readers to check out AFI’s Max the YES case in full for themselves at www.afi.scot.
Let’s kick loads of Tory Unionists out on the list and replace them with indy supporters.
Let’s teach them a lesson for their anti-democratic refusals over indyref2 that they will never forget.

IN reply to C Walker’s letter (March 10), Margaret Thatcher, in reply to a SNP MP, said that if ever Scotland elected a majority of Scottish MPs to the Westminster Parliament, they could have their independence. The Tories have broken every promise ever made.

MORE immediate issues for voters than deciding what party to give your list vote to in May are: a) make sure you’re registered to vote, especially those who have not voted before, ie 16 years+, and b) as an insurance, apply for a postal vote before April 6.
