I READ Kathleen Nutt’s article, “Tories’ vote against Swinney set to go ahead” (March 8) with a certain amount of surprise as I am sure John Swinney will welcome the opportunity to display his political prowess in a televised debate in the Scottish Parliament.

Let us not forget that FM Nicola Sturgeon had what turned out to be an eight-hour television appearance to which she responded with straight answers to the questions. One of the outcomes was a spike in membership for the SNP, which will mean an increase in income for the party funds. In addition, a number of the questioners, with their politically biased performances, did not appear to enhance their chances of being re-elected in May.

The proposed no-confidence vote will give the Scottish people the opportunity to see if the Labour and Liberal Democrat MSPs are willing to press what could be for them the self-destruct button and vote with the Tories in an anti-Scottish Unionist alliance coalition. Interesting times we live in.
