I MUST take issue with Andy Anderson in Friday’s Long Letter. The only time the Scottish National Party won a majority was by using SNP 1&2 voting. It is surely the objective to have the same result this time. Whilst it might be nice to decimate the Unionist parties’ representation, it is irrelevant in the scheme of things.

Should the SNP not obtain a majority of MSPs the London government will simply state, ad infinitum, that the party for independence and self-determination does not even have a majority in Scotland. They will not care one iota how many independence-supporting MSPs there are in the Parliament. They will only be concerned with preventing an SNP majority and being able to use that as their clarion call.

I have never heard of the founders of the Action for Independence Party and do not know if they are genuine self-determination supporters, Trojan horses, self-serving hopefuls, wolves in sheeps’ clothing, or just plain fools. I say this because anything which risks an SNP outright majority must be avoided.

We as a people, if we wish to get ourselves free of Westminster rule, need to hold fast and stick with the political arm of the Yes movement. I do not think the SNP will make the mistake of saying that this election is not about independence again, so we who want self-determination for Scotland should turn out and vote for them. There is no doubt they are not without human faults and failings, but this is not the time for division.

Andy finishes his letter saying “you know it makes sense,” but in actual fact it does NOT. We need to get a majority of SNP MSPs elected irrespective of any other considerations. I personally would like to be rid of the Willie Rennies, Ruth Davidson, Douglas Rosses, Jackie Baillies and Anas Sarwars from this political landscape but we must maximise the SNP vote and obtain a majority.
