WHY is anyone surprised that Boris has excluded seed potatoes from the list of crops allowed into the EU? It surely should have been obvious long ere now that such things are not accidental, but part of a carefully constructed plan to destroy, surreptitiously, as much as possible of the Scottish economy and industries.

First they will create conditions to force as many businesses as possible to fail and close down, and then they will turn round and constantly point out how much our economy has been decimated, in spite of all the “extra help” they have given us during the pandemic. So the main plank of the campaign against independence will be that, if we could not support our economy with help from Westminster, we cannot possibly survive independence.

Sadly, some hesitant supporters of independence will once again be frightened into changing back to the Unionist side. In the meantime, while our Scottish Government tries to combat this by protesting in the strongest possible terms, they are always on the defensive, after the event, and proving with each protest that the plan is working. Boris and his devious acolytes are setting us up to fail, and we seem willing to fail to order.

Even the vociferous protests about the damage from huge losses of seafood etc in the lorry queues in Kent illustrate this. As that is merely a foretaste of what will happen from January 1, there should surely have been options ready to implement immediately, with alternative port facilities in Scotland.

After all, if container ships can dock in Grangemouth and Greenock and massive cruise ships even in places like Invergordon, was it beyond feasible to make arrangements to charter some of the unused shipping capacity around the world to provide this safeguard?

Why are we always “at the coo’s tail”, letting Westminster make the running on their choice of battleground?
