IS anyone else fed up with the “once in a generation” mantra repeated by so many Unionists? Jeremy Corbyn and Boris Johnson both used this phrase when referring to the 2019 election – did they mean there would never be another election? And when DRoss links it to the Edinburgh Agreement he is quite deliberately wrong, but gets away with it time after time because interviewers don’t correct him.
“Now is not the time” is the other mantra used – we have to deal with the aftermath of Covid, we have to do x, y and z. However it is alright for Westminster to carry on with Brexit like nothing else is going on, and they refused to contemplate an extension even at the height of Covid. It seems it is only Scotland that is to stop doing anything not Covid-related – though Covid may be the very thing that gives us independence, since Westminster shows us every day just incompetent they are and how much we really do need independence.

Their next line will be “if leaving the EU after 40 years was so very difficult, what will it be like leaving a Union of 300 years?” The answer is that we will be dealing with one country and it will not be the Tories who will be making demands. There is not even any need for a border, since we are all in the common travel area – unless of course Westminster sees this as a backdoor way back into Europe once they realise how awful leaving the EU is.
We have to be prepared not to listen to their false promises, and outright lies (Doctor Who will not be seen in Scotland, you will not get your state pension if you leave the Union – just two among many many lies spouted by Better Together). All they have left is fear. I for one will never forgive the Labour activist who put fear of losing his pension into my 91-year-old dad’s head, stopped him voting indy and gave him sleepless nights.
An article in The Times last weekend showed what was said about Malta 40 years ago before their independence – they would not be able to feed themselves etc. They have been independent for 40 years and are doing well.
