PLEASE everyone, keep complaining about Scotland being subsidised by England, and tell others to do so. Michael Gove wants a riled, angry Scotland. His aim is to keep antagonising the thrawn Scots so more and more of his countrymen will vote for independence.

He knows what he’s doing. Though we want to leave the Union, it suits him just as much. No more will Scottish MPs sit on Westminster’s green benches. The result will be an unassailable, long-lasting Conservative majority.

That is only Gove’s first step. Even the Tory MPs know Boris the Clown for what he is, incompetent for office. He has played his role. The threat of Farage in England’s “Red Wall” seats was defeated, and Boris gained his childhood ambition. Nicola Sturgeon has shown Boris up during the pandemic months, and after New Year Brexit will still be unfinished. The Tories, as history has revealed, are an unmerciful bunch to failing Prime Ministers (Maggie Thatcher and the poll tax, John Major with the economy, Theresa May and Brexit).

Boris will be thrown out next year. You won’t see any stabbing in the back from Gove the mastermind. He’ll be too busy grabbing the Prime Minister’s seat in the English Parliament. The saying “let your opponent use his energy for you” comes to my mind, and perhaps the First Minister’s. Let’s hope Gove’s cunning plan works.

Could it be we are missing an opportunity? If more publicity was given in England, perhaps letters in their “non-biased” newspapers, regarding how England has been heavily subsidising Scotland, then would their elected representatives not be under pressure from people like Colin Southwell (Letters, August 28) to encourage a second independence referendum?

How would these politicians be able to suggest that the Scots are not being subsidised? They may even be in danger of losing their seats in Westminster if they miss the opportunity to getting rid of us subsidy-junky Scots.
