NO-ONE should be fooled by the sudden appearance of Davidson and Ross, those much aligned Scottish Tories now placed in our midst as caretakers for their masters in Westminster.

I don’t believe for a minute that Ross resigned his Cabinet role due his revulsion at Dominic Cummings’s blatant breach of lockdown restrictions. More likely Cummings planned that Ross did so in a bid to give him some credence back home. We now have the sitting duck Ruth Davidson firing blanks at FMQs while the equally discredited Douglas Ross sits in Westminster. Distractions both!

Meanwhile the real threat we need to pay attention to is that the equally incredulous Johnson has his beavers building blockades to Scotland’s independence.

READING Ned Larkin’s proposed new title for the leader of the Scottish Tories of “Lino Ross” (Letters, August 17), I have an alternative. Simply use his first initial followed by his surname in full. We get "Dross". Which is more appropriate on many levels.
