DOUGLAS Ross, the new Scottish Conservative leader, vows to “fight the SNP”. He would be more accurate saying he will fight the majority of the Scottish electorate who put the SNP in power.

It was no less weird when Tory MPs celebrated wildly about breaking up our precious European Union, proclaiming as Nigel Farage did that “we’ve got our country back. We’ll make our own rules. We’ll govern our own country.”

Yet these are the very same people who become enraged when Scots want to do the same. So apoplectic do they become that they mount one determined campaign after another to batter down the very thought of independence.

Did the EU do that to the British? Did MEPs come in their hundreds to fight UK independence? Tories really do have a Divine Right.
