I WAS delighted to see that the SNP have two strong women, Roza Salih and Michelle Campbell, intending to stand as candidates at the Holyrood election 2021. If elected, they will bring excellent life experience to the party and government. While I welcome all women who are inspired to enter politics, it is especially welcome that more BAME women can actively demonstrate that Scotland really lives up to its inclusive message and that our free university education provides opportunity for everyone regardless of wealth or background.

I WAS delighted to read about the young women from ethnic minority backgrounds hoping to become MSPs.
I was out of the country in the 90s when the Glasgow Girls were active, as we had to become economic migrants when Mrs Thatcher destroyed my husband’s profession. So I didn’t know about their actions. When we were in the Middle East I worked to help protect the environment, and I appreciated at first hand the reasons for people needing to flee their homes due to Western imperialism.
Good luck to these young people; they have exactly the right kind of attitude an independent Scotland needs.

SERVERA Clavell would be an excellent addition to our parliament: articulate, intelligent, forthright and personable. Good luck to her, and I look forward to hearing more of her public speaking. Scotland has so many good people willing to stand up for all her citizens. Can you imagine them all working together for the improvement of the lives of all of us in an independent Scotland? It’s coming, YES it is!

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
