I THOROUGHLY enjoyed Alyn Smith’s uplifting and enlightening article, (Scotland is international ... we must not let the world forget that, February 12). It highlights the distractions that are being created and carefully stage managed to divert the public’s attention from the problems that Brexit will bring to the UK.

This is at a time when the UK’s economy is stagnating and yet businesses are having to prepare for border checks and burgeoning bureaucracy. What has happened to the “oven ready” deal promised by the PM prior to the election?

Scotland is an outward-looking democracy and does not have the isolationist philosophy expounded by Westminster. This has been demonstrated time and again in the Scottish Parliament and perhaps the most obvious example is when it decided, in spite of Unionist opposition, that our 16- and 17-year-old young people should have the right to vote, sadly a right not enjoyed by young people in other parts of the UK.
