THE UK is no longer a full democracy? Who on earth, other than the crypto-fascists who benefit from the system, even thought for a moment that the UK has ever been “a full democracy”?

There has never, at any time in history, been an occasion when the UK scratched the surface of democracy: there has never been a government which enjoyed the franchise of a majority of the people. Blair was able to form his last administration with the support of around 17% of those entitled to vote. The Electoral Commission is unable even to confirm the percentage of the population this number actually includes.

This country is called a democracy merely because it enables the establishment to continue the pretence that the people’s opinion matters. Surely the events of the last decade have demonstrated that it most assuredly does not.
