THE General Election is just six weeks away – help us provide the best coverage possible by backing our 10,000 Steps campaign and subscribing to The National.

When we launched the campaign earlier this year, we told you how your support could help us invest in our journalism and expand across print and digital platforms as we continue to champion independence for Scotland.

Since then we’ve hit several targets and begun delivering on our pledge to you by producing special fact-based supplements on the cause for Yes and developing our digital team by bringing viral video expert Sarah Mackie onboard.

At almost 8000 subscribers, we’re now on the cusp of launching our fact-checking service.

But we want to go further, faster, and provide the best coverage as we approach this historic General Election.

With both Brexit and independence set to be defining issues, there couldn’t be more at stake.

Editor Callum Baird said: “We’re grateful to every one of our readers and subscribers – without you, Scotland’s only pro-independence daily newspaper wouldn’t exist.

“We believe The National’s in-depth news coverage, expert analysis and must-read features on politics, culture, and more, play a vital role in stating the case for independence and busting unionist myths.

“Clearly you do too, because our audience is growing. Sales and subscriptions are up, and our stories reach more and more people online and through social media.

“And that’s allowing us to create more content than ever before, but we want to hit our 10,000 subscriber target and do more. We’re asking you to keep backing The National and help us bring more original material to life, including more videos, more myth-busting analysis and more special publications.

“We’ll be telling the stories that matter in the run up to December 12 – including the news Boris Johnson doesn’t want you to know.

“And this weekend we’ll be bringing the Yes movement together for a landmark rally in George Square, Glasgow, to make sure Westminster knows that Scotland is ready for indyref2020 – and we demand the right to hold that democratic vote on our future.

“Please join us there, if you can – and please also consider joining our family of regular subscribers.”

The National offers a range of fantastic subscription packages for print, web and digital editions.
