I FIND it ironic that Priti Patel is pleased to report in her speech at the Tory party conference that as from November 1 2019, freedom of movement will end in the UK, when her own parents had to flee Uganda with nothing when Idi Amin expelled the Asian community.

The UK did not turn its back on them in 1971. The Tories’ whole dogma is about racial stereotypes, xenophobia and an arrogant “British is always best” attitude.

Our experience when we moved from England to Scotland two-and-a-half years ago has been very different from what we found in England, where race crime and bigotry was on the increase.

I fear that matters will get worse under the “leadership”

of Boris Johnson and we must regain control of our country by achieving its independence.
