AT the weekend we saw some of the worst sectarian violence in Scotland for years. We’ve also seen a rise in sectarian songs and behaviour at football matches in recent months.

This rise coincided with the repeal of the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act, due in no small measure to the actions of James Kelly MSP.

Despite warnings that sectarianism would rise if this bill was repealed and no replacement legislation was introduced, Mr Kelly charged on.

It is disappointing that the MSP who has opened up the floodgates to sectarianism is now being rewarded by being appointed the justice spokesperson for Labour. You really have to wonder that Richard Leonard was thinking with this appointment!
