MORE train strikes are set to cause disruption in May and June after two unions announced further strike action.

Primarily, it is those in England who will feel the effects as drivers’ union Aslef announced three days of action, one of which will impact travel on the day of the FA Cup final in London.

Elsewhere, the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union has also announced another walkout which falls on May 13 - the same day as the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest final in Liverpool.

Will the strikes impact Scotland?

In the past, when Network Rail have been part of industrial action, it has impacted ScotRail services.

However, Network Rail staff who are members of the RMT accepted a deal in March.

ScotRail has yet to confirm whether or not it will still be able to run a full timetable as a result of the latest strike action.

Will cross-Border travel be disrupted?

Both LNER and Avanti West Coast workers are taking part in the strikes.

Aslef drivers will walk out on May 12 and 31 as well as on June 3 while those in the RMT will walkout on May 13.

If you call LNER’s helpline, you’ll be greeted with a message which explains that tickets are no longer available on these days until the operator figures out how services will be impacted.

Indeed, if you try and book a ticket from Glasgow to London Euston on these days, the website says they are “not available”.

Likewise, Avanti West Coast’s website does not allow you to book tickets on strike days. A message on the site reads: “No trains to/from London Euston on April 30 // Strike action May 12, 13 and 31 & June 3.”
