Man, 31, seriously hurt in attempted murder in Wishaw

A 31-YEAR-OLD man has been seriously injured in an attempted murder after being attacked by masked men with weapons.

The incident happened on Wingate Street in Wishaw at around 1.30pm on Monday, August 17, 2026.

Police were called after reports that a man had been found seriously injured following the attack.

The suspects, all wearing black balaclavas, made off from the scene in a grey SUV.

Emergency services attended and the 31-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment.

Detective Inspector Vicki Douglas said: “We believe this was a targeted attack on the victim and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and identify those involved.

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened, or noticed a vehicle driving off at speed, to come forward.

“We would be particularly keen to hear from members of the public with private CCTV or dashcam footage which could be of significance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101, quoting incident 1495 of Monday, 17 August or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
