A LORRY trailer burst into flames on the M8 near Glasgow overnight, forcing a key stretch of the motorway to close for several hours.
The blaze broke out on the eastbound carriageway just before the Provan junction, with dramatic images showing an articulated trailer well alight at the roadside.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called at 11.41pm and sent two appliances to tackle the fire, remaining at the scene until around 1.46am. There were no reports of any injuries or casualties.

Traffic Scotland first reported at 12.02am that the M8 eastbound at junction 13 (Provan) was closed due to a vehicle fire and urged drivers to use alternative routes and take care while travelling in the area.

A later update at around 6am confirmed the eastbound on‑slip at Provan had re-opened.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 11.41pm and had two appliances attend to the incident to reports of an arctic trailer on fire at the M8 near Provan. We left the incident at 1.46am. No injuries no casualties.”
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
