DOUGLAS Alexander has been accused of being “posted missing, dreaming of his next job” in government after it emerged he had been discussing foreign policy with the Prime Minister over beers.
The Scottish Secretary has reportedly been invited for chats with Keir Starmer to discuss global affairs, opening him up to claims that Scottish Labour’s election campaign – which he is co-chairing – is an “afterthought” to him.

Three sources told Politico that Alexander, who served as international development secretary under Gordon Brown, has been meeting with the Prime Minister for discussions on the international situation, with one official saying: “The thing that gets Douglas out of bed is foreign policy.”
Paul McLennan, the SNP candidate for East Lothian Coast and Lammermuirs, told The National that Alexander was “posted missing” from his campaign role.
He said: “With the Labour Party languishing in the polls and putting forward a manifesto which has fallen completely flat for offering absolutely nothing to Scottish voters, it is no wonder the chair of their campaign would rather think about anything else.

“Scotland is always an afterthought to the Labour Party, and now it appears our election is even an afterthought to the chair of their campaign.
“With Anas Sarwar utterly desperate and Douglas Alexander posted missing, dreaming of his next job in Starmer's deeply unpopular government, Labour's campaign is utterly rudderless.
“What a contrast to the strong leadership of John Swinney and an SNP Government that is always on Scotland's side.”
The Scotland Office was approached for comment.
