A HSBC branch in Glasgow has temporarily closed after pro-Palestine protesters smashed multiple windows and doors.
Police are investigating after red paint was thrown at HSBC’s branch on the corner of Buchanan Street and Argyle Street on Thursday morning.
The message, which was painted over smashed window panes but was later removed with pressure washers, appeared to read: “Blood money. Shut Elbit down.”
The Glasgow branch was seemingly shut to the public and has been listed as temporarily closed online.

Elbit Systems is an Israeli defence contractor and technology company that provides around 85% of Israel's drones and land-based military equipment.
The weapons firm has played a major role in supplying Israel with weaponry for its genocide in Gaza.
A number of demonstrations have been held across the UK as pro-Palestine protesters have demanded that all Elbit Systems factories in the UK are shut down.
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the branch was targeted in the early hours of Thursday morning and that enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
They said: “Around 8.40am on Thursday, January 22, 2026, we received a report of damage to a premises on Buchanan Street, Glasgow.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
A HSBC UK Spokesperson: “Criminal acts against our branches threaten the safety of our colleagues, customers, and our ability to serve the community, including some of the most vulnerable people who rely on our network.
“Safety is our priority, and we are actively assisting law enforcement to ensure accountability for these attacks and restore normal service as quickly as possible.”
