TOURISM spending in Scotland has boomed over the last two years, demonstrating how the country is “one of the world’s great destinations”, the SNP have said.
Data from the GBTS, IPS and NISRA surveys revealed Scotland welcomed more than 314 million visitors from 2022 to 2024, bringing with them an £32.8 billion boost to the economy.
International visitor spending was particularly strong as it increased from £3.2bn in 2022 to £4bn in 2024.
During the period, Scotland played host to 11.6 million international visitors, and 269.7m visitors from the rest of the UK – including day and overnight travellers.
Overnight visitors accounted for £20.9bn of the overall spend, with day visitors providing £11.8bn.

Tourism is a key part of the country’s economy, accounting for 5.4% of its overall GDP.

“At Christmas especially, when our towns, cities and rural communities come alive with festive spirit, we are proud of everyone working in tourism who helps make Scotland such a special place to visit.
“At a time when Westminster instability threatens key industries, these figures show what Scotland can achieve when we have the powers to do so.
“The SNP will continue to support this vital sector, champion Scotland internationally, and ensure that the economic benefits of tourism are felt in every corner of the country.”
