Rangers FC and their fans have condemned the vandalism of Walter Smith's statue in Glasgow.
The club and their fan advisory board both released statements after a video emerged on WhatsApp, showing the statue on fire.
In the footage, seen by the Glasgow Times, the football legend's tribute can be seen covered in flames in two places.
In response, Rangers branded the act as "shameful" and confirmed that Police Scotland has been alerted.
A spokesperson said: "We are aware of an incident at the Walter Smith statue last night, and strongly condemn this shameful behaviour.
"The matter has been reported to Police Scotland, and work is underway to ensure the site is cleaned and returned to good condition."
Fans were also outraged by the footage, and the Rangers Fan Advisory Board called the perpetrator a "lowlife". They have asked anyone who has information about the incident to report it.
The group added: "A line was crossed last night in the shameful, shocking and senseless attack on the Walter Smith statue at Ibrox. Walter was not just a Rangers legend; he served the Scottish football community as a whole with dedication and pride over many decades.
"We call on anyone with any information on the lowlife who carried out these cowardly actions to contact the club.
"We have already seen the open mocking of the 66 in recent months resulting in punishment from our courts, and we hope the individual responsible for this disgusting episode is also dealt with accordingly."
Police Scotland has launched an investigation.
The force confirmed: “Around 9.15am on Friday, October 10, 2025, we received a report of fire damage to a statue in the Edmiston Drive area of Glasgow.
"Enquiries are at an early stage.”
Walter Smith died in October 2021. He was 73 years old.
He led Rangers to 10 top-flight titles, five Scottish Cups and six League Cups as well as to the UEFA Cup final in 2008.
He also managed Everton and Scotland in a trophy-laden career.
More than 600 people attended Smith's funeral at Glasgow Cathedral, including Ally McCoist, Andy Goram, Gordon Strachan and Neil Lennon.
