A "beautiful" Scottish village, which is surrounded by an "elemental landscape" and extraordinary wildlife, has been named one of the prettiest in the whole of the UK.
Pennan in Aberdeenshire was ranked alongside quaint locations across the country, including Plockton in the Scottish Highlands and Askwith in North Yorkshire.
Introducing the list, The Times newspaper said that for nearly a millennium, the UK's towns and villages have maintained their "ageless appeal and also moved with the times".

Located on the northern coast of Aberdeenshire, Pennan, a village where dolphins often come to "frolic" and seals bask on the rocks to the east, is said to be "highly beautiful".
The stunning row of white houses facing out of the bay was built in the 18th and 19th centuries.
In 1983, with the release of the film Local Hero, Pennan was brought to the world stage, with its beauty and its famous red telephone box featuring on the silver screen.
Those coming to the Scottish seaside town can stay at the Pennan Inn. Featuring only three bedrooms, visitors can get a good view of the "elemental landscape" surrounding the settlement.
Nearby, there is the RSPB's Troup Head Nature Reserve, a location which has been praised on Tripadvisor .
One person said: "As always, Troup Head offers a splendid spectacle of wild scenery and wildlife, not spoiled by crowds or any sort of 'facilities'."

Another penned: "A great place to go to experience the spectacle of the Gannets flying round the cliffs below you!
"A short walk either along paths through farmland or a gravel path along the cliffs brings you to the area where they are easily seen."
A third visitor said: "Visited Trouphead last weekend for the first time and i'm just 25 minutes away and the views are incredible and it's amazing to watch the gannets."
